Measuring your room
U-Fit
advises that when deciding how much flooring you need to order you start
with drawing a simple sketch of your room. Measure your width and length
in cm and mtrs and add these measurements to your plan. Remember to add
in your doorways especially if the flooring is to be run through to another
room or you need to order door bars etc.
If measuring a square or rectangle room, your measurements would be width
x length
Example (A)
2 mtrs x 4 mtrs = 8 sq mtrs
For L Shaped rooms – divide the room into two areas and work out
each area individually

Example (C)
Measuring Straight Stairs
To measure straight stairs start at the base of the top riser (see diagram)
and continue down to the base of the bottom riser. Record the number of
steps and the measurements taken.
Overall
measurements should be taken as well as measurements of individual steps.
7.5 cm should be added to the overall length of each complicated/winder
stairs.
If measurements are taken on uncarpeted stairs 2.5 cm per step should
also be added to allow for the underlay take up.
In addition to the 2.5 cm per step an allowance of 50 cm should be made
for shifting purposes.
The additional amount of material to enable periodic shifting of the
carpet to equalise the wear of straight stairs and consider ordering additional
carpet for complicated stairs where moving the carpet is not possible.
Measuring Kite Winder and Spiral Stairs
Where it is necessary for stairs to change direction, special stairs called
kites and winders are used instead of landings. They are usually in sets
of three, two winders and one kite. Each kite and winder has to be measured.
The important
rule in measuring this type of step is to ensure that the maximum dimensions
of the stair are measured and also when planning that the pile direction
is at 90 0c to the nose of the stair.
To measure spiral or kitewinder stairs measure along the largest lines
both lengthwise and widthwise. As for straight stairs 2.5cm on the length
should be added for take up of the underlay and a further 7.5cm on the
width to allow for trimming.
If the carpet requires turning under to avoid a raw edge at the newel
post an extra
5 cm should be added to the width dimension
TIPS FOR MEASURING KARNDEAN
First check how many sq mtrs per box are in the range of Karndean you
have chosen.
Remember to add 5% for cutting and wastage.
Example – Measuring a Room for Karndean Knight Tile
Room size 5 mtrs x 3 mtrs = 15 sq mtrs + 5% cutting and wastage = 15.75
sq mtrs
Divide by 3.34 (full box size) = 4.72 boxes (so you order 5 boxes which
gives you 16.70 sq mtrs) We can not supply split boxes

TIPS FOR MEASURING MARMOLEUM
If measuring for Tiles add 5% for cutting and wastage. Remember there
are 5 sq mtrs per box and tiles measure 50 cm x 50 cm.
If measuring for marmoleum sheet be aware that it is only 2 mtrs wide
so plan the location of your join/seam if your room size is over 2 mtrs
wide.

TIPS FOR MEASURING DALSOUPLE
Textured Tiles
These tiles are 680 mm x 680 mm. Which converts to 0.46 sq mtrs U-Fit
recommends that as these are large tiles it is advisable to first quantify
the actual amount of full tiles you require and then order to the nearest
sq mtr.
Smooth Tiles
Smooth Tiles – Size 340 mm x 340 mm
Please order how many sq mtrs you require allowing the extra minimum 5%
for cutting and wastage
Smooth Tiles 1760 mm x 680 mm
As these tiles are so large, first quantify the actual amount of full
tiles you require and then order to the nearest sq mtr.
